Things that made my sewing time today wonderful:

New pajama pants from Old Navy.
New super turbo boosted steroid fan from Target.
New copy of David Bowie's Heathen, bought for $5 at the Princeton Record Exchange. I spent the whole time sewing thinking about the pretty in The Man Who Fell to Earth.

So do you want to hear my most embarrassing musical memory? When my friend Tia and I were fifteen, we LOVED Nine Inch Nails. When they came to town we were ecstatic. We dressed all up in our black eyeliner and lace, and got Tia's mom to drive us to the concert and rocked out so hard to Nine Inch Nails and were so happy. Then the band that NIN had been opening for came on stage, and this old guy started singing. We were all, "Who's this dumb old guy and why isn't Trent Reznor still on stage" and walked out of the concert after his first song all pissy and sat in the parking lot waiting for Tia's mom to come pick us up.

The old guy was David Bowie. I walked out of a David Bowie concert because I was young and stupid. I will never forgive myself.

In happier news, new cases in my etsy shop!

Another mix CD: Country Music for People Who Don't Like Country Music

  • Man In Black--Johnny Cash (this was the first country song I fell in love with, I remember how it totally blew my mind as we sat up late at night in Chris Anderson's messy room when I was home from college)
  • I Missed the Point--Neko Case
  • I'll Fly Away--Alison Krauss & Gillian Welch
  • Joy And Jubilee--Bonnie 'Prince' Billy
  • She's Got You--Patsy Cline
  • The Red Headed Stranger--Willie Nelson
  • Papa Was a Rodeo--The Magnetic Fields
  • Folsom Prison Blues--Johnny Cash
  • Rooster Mountain--The Court & Spark
  • Graveside Song--Stevens Sisters
  • First Year Blues--Hank Williams
  • Jolene--Dolly Parton
  • History Of Lovers--Iron And Wine / Calexico
  • The Pill--Loretta Lynn
  • Honky Tonk Merry Go Round--Patsy Cline
  • I'll Go Stepping Too--Emmylou Harris
  • Righteously--Lucinda Williams
  • Mommy For A Day--Kitty Wells (I went through a phase right after I graduated college where I made all my friends listen to this song everytime we got in my car. I think Kitty Wells is such a strong, sexy feminist, with her sly subversion)
  • Uniform Grey--Sarah Harmer

iPod cases that go with country songs? I would say:

Both kind of remind me of long twilights on the ranch and the hot sun beating down on the prairie.

New cases on etsy

I just added this:

Leaf Me Alone iPod Nano case

and my blue vinyl iPod case to my etsy store. It always takes me awhile to add the items from my website to etsy also, but I like it because it lets me go through my cases and choose my favorites. Just don't tell the other cases that I choose favorites. I don't want any sibling rivalry.

If you haven't checked out etsy yet, go! It's a fantastic marketplace full of handcrafted items, and a great way to both spend money and waste time at work.

New diner glitter vinyl cases!

When I saw this at the fabric store, I almost died of happiness. To understand why, you have to know a little bit about my upbringing.

Austin, Texas is where I lived from when I was nine until I went to college at eighteen. There's not that much to do in Austin when you're not of legal drinking age. We sat in parking lots and listened to car stereos. We played pool at Rachel's house and made out in her backyard. And we went to diners. Nearly every night, we would spend hours eating grilled cheese and french fries and drinking coffee and filling the air with cigarette smoke and discussing how we would solve the problems of the world, when we were old enough to.

Here's my ode to those days.
